Feeling Stuck? Take charge & Drive your Way to a Rewarding Life.

Let’s talk about the Greeks today. In the colorful collections of the Greek gods’ stories, there’s a simple tale of slow yet eternal torture.

The Greek Gods punished a King called Sisyphus.

He had to roll a huge boulder up on a hill. Sounds easy, doesn’t it?

But the Greek Gods had a twisted sense of humor.

As Sisyphus was near the top, the boulder would roll back to the bottom of the hill. He would walk down the hill and then repeat the whole rolling up all over again. It was a punishment for eternity.

Perhaps on some parallel Universe where the Greek Gods live, poor Sisyphus is still rolling that stone up, only for it to roll down again.

If I had to bear that punishment, I would have gone crazy within a week. I would have hit my head on that boulder and ended this torture.

I have often felt like Sisyphus. Day in day out, I have slaved to get things done, to get peoples’ approval, to earn enough money, to keep all my loved ones happy, to make a difference.

But there came a time when none of my efforts made any difference. No matter what I did, or what changes I try to make, nothing changes.

I came to the painful realization that like Sisyphus I am stuck rolling things up, only for them to roll down all over again.

If you have ever put in all many times without any results, you might have an idea of what I am talking about.

It’s this dreadful feeling of staying in this same state of mind of helplessness, frustration, and dissatisfaction with your life.

But let me be grateful to the Greek gods (in case they are reading) that I don’t share the same fate as Sisyphus.

Unlike Sisyphus, I, just like all of you, can take charge and stop feeling stuck.

Here are a few tips or tricks which can help us shift our perspective and bring about the fulfillment we desire from our lives.

Any action is often better than no action, especially if you have been stuck in an unhappy situation for a long time.

Break free of the Monotony Monster

Repetition doesn’t create memories. New experiences do.
Brian Chesky

Many times we feel stuck simply because our lives become monotonous and tiresome.

It could be the repetitive tasks you do at work, the same old theories at college or the same routine dates with your partner.

When things get repetitive, they get boring.

Breaking free of the monotony will allow you to shift your focus and help you see an obvious difference in your life.

Also, the changes you make don’t have to be dramatic.

Perhaps a day off doing nothing, or a trip to the mountains or a new date idea could bring back the missing excitement in your life.

Do something different than usual and see if it makes any difference.

Move. Get some Action

Walking is a great adventure, the first meditation, a practice of heartiness and soul primary to humankind. Walking is the exact balance between spirit and humility.
Gary snyder
Most of us have sedentary lifestyles.

In these times of desk jobs, online shopping and food delivered at home, our physical activities have become limited.

Now, I know not everyone can exercise or perform Yoga ( Neither me) but we all need to move our bodies during the day.

You could walk for a while during the day, use stairs somedays or dance it out to give your body some movements.

Or you can clean your apartment for some peace.

Also, you don’t have to be good at dancing and nobody has to watch you dance.

It will feel weird in the beginning, but there’s nothing like dancing to help your body move freely.

Just put on your favorite beats and groove.

Get it out of your head.

Whether you’re keeping a journal or writing as a meditation, it’s the same thing. What’s important is you’re having a relationship with your mind.
Natalie Goldberg

If you are feeling stuck, and a few simple changes aren’t helping then I suggest that you try to identify the underlining causes of that feeling and get it out of your system.

My favorite thing to do when I feel stuck is to sleep. I think a well-rested mind and body makes us more receptive to positive feelings.

I also like writing things down, unfiltered.

Once things are out of my head, I can think more clearly. Or you could try talking to someone close to you.

You can also take a step ahead and talk to someone you think who can help change the situation.

For instance, if some family stuff is making you feel stuck, you can talk to your parents.

If its a job, go to your boss and discuss your issues.

Or have a heart to heart conversation with your partner and see if they can contribute in any way to help you make a transition from your current state of mind.

Set Small & Specific Goals

The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score.
Bill Copeland

We, humans, live for achievements.

And it is essential for healthy self-esteem that we achieve our goals regularly.

It often happens that we get so fixated on the bigger picture and the greater goods that we don’t notice the small stuff.

Our eyes are so focused on the ultimate target and the end goal that our daily progress seems to fade.

We fall under the illusion that we are achieving nothing till we don’t reach the end post. The ultimate dream.

Trust me, it isn’t healthy.

We are all like little kids in the essence. We need to be encouraged for the small steps we talk before we take up the big runs.

So take a close look at your goals, and break them down into tiny doable milestones.

That way you will be able to measure your process. It will give you a sense of making some real difference.

Remember, achieving big goals will get you the world’s applause, but achieving the small ones will help build your trust in yourself.

Make room for some Joy, regularly.

The path of joy involves valuing yourself and monitoring where you put your time.
Sanaya Roman

No matter how wonderful our life is, we don’t always do what makes us happy.

Hell, we don’t even have a set and definitive definition of happiness.

Sometimes staying home and doing nothing makes us happy.

Sometimes it’s a reunion with friends. Sometimes rainy days are wonderful to us.

Currently, a few sun rays could give you joy.

My idea is to pick something that you think and feel will give you joy in a particular mood or time and do it.

Different things work out for different people, so you can be creative.

Or just watch Netflix.

Whatever you do, do something that gives you joy weekly at least.

Because no matter what people say, ultimately, we all long for just peace and happiness.

Choose joy and schedule a time for it.

These are the things that helped me shift my focus when I was “feeling stuck” and these tips made me find some more joy in my life.

If you are feeling stuck or looking for some excitement out of your life or some impactful yet small changes in your life, do try them.

You can try all of them or pick what works for you best. Or if there are tips and tricks or examples which can help me or someone reading this, do share them in the comments below. I am eager to hear your views.
