The lamp Post

Straight he stands
On the left of the street.
Everyone who passes,
them loving he greets.

I have never seen his light
from post any near.
I have viewed him from far
I have felt him up here.

He seems to me sometimes
a close familiar star;
or a ripe golden fruit

hanging up an iron bar.

I have shyly observed
in unchanging place he lives,
brightly darkened by night

in those crude clusters of leaves.

I have seen pictures forming
by colours of his light.
I have read the words here,
which the winds wish fully write.

I steal looks of him
one now and one then.
Those make me feel wise very-
deeds insanely insane!

He does sometimes darken,
my delicate sight;
he can even do hurt
by strong concentrated light.

He never looks away.
He just stares at me.
Even when I am negligible,
He’s fixated on me!

Day arrives and
I forget him again.
Day: brings enough of stress
more than enough of strain.

At times I avoid him
I neglect him altogether.
I haven’t any time,
Even to pretend being together.

He still gazes
from that unmoving place
Sometimes it’s hard to avoid
that kind and loving gaze.

I never give him much thought.
There are things other to think.
There are seeds and fruits;
and deeds to weave in link.

He is never forgotten
also never remembered.
He is like my heart’s voice-
Unheard and unnumbered.

But in deary dark nights,
when among disasters I am locked,

My body grows restless
And my breath begins to choke-

I crawl upto the window
to suck in comforting air,
I find always that familiar light;
Gazing: all carring, bright and fair!
